Celebrities: The Latest Fad in Designer Perfume

Traditionally, designer perfume was the domain of the big name brands, those brands that everyone knows of, whether they use their products or not. The classics like Estee Lauder, Chanel and Guerlain would often get celebrities to endorse their perfumes to create a certain feel for their products. Nowadays celebrities are not content to just endorse other people’s perfumes, they instead start their own line of perfumes, catered towards their followers, it seems like every star has their own perfume.

Do Celebrities Design Their Perfumes?

How much say the celebrities have in the creation of their perfume varies greatly. Quite often they turn the design over to professionals who come up with fragrances and the stars get the final say on whether they like it or not. Some are much more involved in the process, and others still, leave everything up to their promoters and just revel in the money they make at the end of the day.

Don’t be fooled though, when Celine Dion says that she was involved in every aspect of the making her designer perfume, she didn’t actually put on a lab coat and weave together the scents that make up her own unique fragrance. She decided on what kind of a scent she was interested in, took input on what scent would suit her image and decided from there. The design of the bottle only took her approval and input.

Jennifer Lopez jumped on the designer perfume bandwagon and got her own perfume too. After working at a cosmetics counter many years before she knew exactly what kind of fragrance she was after. She already had a deep knowledge of the smells available and the company she worked with to create her designer perfume credits her with adding the hint of sake scent that tops off the perfume. The bottle design included a pretend diamond ring or a necklace on the neck of the bottle because she likes to wear jewelery. By being more involved in each step of the design of her unique scent, she made sure that it reflected the kind of person she is.

Paris Hilton is great at marketing and doesn’t claim to have had a huge say in how her perfume was designed. She used her face and fame to make sure that her designer perfume was the one that stood out for many people when they went to the department store.

From the first major perfumes from celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor, the trend has continued. Not everyone really goes for the idea of a perfume created by a star and many prefer to stick with the good old favorites. But like it or not, the impact of designer perfumes from celebrities has been made, and now the choice is up to you.
